About UsTools for Self Reliance (Northampton) provides volunteering opportunities and work experience for adults and young people of all abilities. We have workshop facilities in Northampton and an outreach group in Towcester, refurbishing tools for those in need in developing countries and for use by community groups within the county. On average, 60 disadvantaged volunteers attend one or more of our workshop sessions per week. We are assisted by a further 10 voluntary helpers.. We send approximately 75% of our refurbished tool kits to the main Tools For Self Reliance charity which is based in Southampton. "Tools" in Southampton works with agencies in developing countries to establish and manage teaching projects. To find out more about TFSR in Southampton, click here TFSR. Some of our other tool kits are given to Northampton Rotarians, for their project work in Malawi and other places Daventry and District Friends of Iganga, for their well established links in UgandaLocal Northamptonshire charities working directly in AfricaLocal Northamptonshire community projects, restoring community open spaces and allotmentsAny tools which are not suitable for these projects are sold to raise funds for keeping our workshop running. We believe strongly in re-cycling. Not only do we restore rusty and broken tools to their former glory, we also re-use broken pallets to make the crates in which the tools are transported. TFSR(N) was established in 1997 and is governed by a body of elected trustees.
